3.3             PLCF principles
The PLCF core values are built on the PLCF principles of fairness, equality, integrity, respect, and transparency.  The following paragraphs are about general areas that these PLCF principles apply.

Fairness applies to the election of PLCF board members, appointments of PLCF project leaders, and selection of donation recipients.  Key considerations for the election of board members and appointments of project leaders are the candidates’ contributions to the development of PLCF as an organization, demonstrated leadership in PLCF activities, and sustained participation and excellent performance in assignments.   The selection of donation recipients should be made according to the specific criteria of PLCF projects.

Equality applies to the decisions on the acceptance of new members, task assignments, election of board directors and PLCF officers (president and vice president of PLCF), and appointments of PLCF project leaders.  PLCF shall not discriminate anyone on the basis of the individual’s age, sex, religious beliefs, social status, or educational background.

Integrity manifests in what we do and how we do things.  When taking on PLCF assignments, members shall put the PLCF core values before personal interest.  Members shall make efforts to avoid real and potential conflict of interest.  Honesty is a key part of integrity.  PLCF promotes honesty in the organization.

Respect relates to how PLCF members interact with recipients, donors (individual or institutional), and members.  PLCF members shall earn respect from recipients, donors, and fellow members by demonstrating fairness, equality, and integrity when conducting PLCF business.  Special attention should be given to the element of respect in the relationship between PLCF members and recipients.  The recipients need emotional support as much as monetary and material support.  Being treated with respect will have lasting positive impacts on recipients.  PLCF members should treat people and institutions that come across PLCF with respect.  PLCF provides opportunities for them to extend their kindness and love to the recipients through PLCF.  Even if they do not do it right away, those opportunities will always be there for them.  PLCF respects their decisions on when they do it.

Transparency applies to the PLCF’s financial management and election of PLCF board members and appointments of project leaders.  Transparency in PLCF’s financial management, especially how PLCF uses and distributes donated funds and materials, is the most important factor in earning donors’ trust in PLCF.   In PLCF finance transparency is traceability to minute details.  Transparency in the election of PLCF board directors and appointments of project leaders is the most important factor in winning members’ hearts and boosting morale in the organization.
